QUINCY -- Harley Epperson Jr., 96, of Maryville, Mo., formerly of Quincy, died June 28, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Maryville. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.

Ewalt, Byron Fred - Edina  
EDINA, Mo. -- Byron Fred Ewalt, 91, of Edina, died Thursday (June 25, 2015) at his residence in Edina. Byron was born May 25, 1924, in rural Knox County, a son of Fred and Nellie Rae House Ewalt. On June 5, 1947, in La Mesa, Texas, he married Eva Lena House, and to this union two children were born. Eva preceded him in death in June 1958. On May 7, 1960, in Knox City, Byron married Euvanah Vannaken, and she died April 28, 2010. He attended Island Rural School northeast of Knox City and graduated from Knox City High School in the class of 1942. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. Byron farmed until 1964 before starting a new vocation as a carpenter that he enjoyed until his retirement in March 2002. He was a lifelong resident of Knox County, a member of the Methodist church but attended Edina Christian Church, a 60-year member of Knox City American Legion and the Colony Masonic Lodge, where he was awarded a 50-year pin. Byron is survived by a son, Lynn, and his wife, Beverly, Ewalt of St. Peters; a daughter, Deanna, and her husband, Larry, Hubbard of Cantril, Iowa; three brothers, Garland Ewalt and his wife, Betty, of Mesa, Ariz., Roy Lee Ewalt and his wife, Mary Lois, of Monmouth, Ill., and Albert Earl Ewalt of Kahoka; three sisters, Roberta Agee of Edina, Jewel See of Colony and Alice Ann and her husband, Roger Gipson, of Edina; a sister-in-law, Barbara Ewalt of Edina; a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Ewalt of St. Peters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rae Ewalt; two wives, Eva Ewalt and Euvanah Ewalt; a daughter, Marsha Ann Ewalt; two brothers, John Arthur Ewalt and Charles William Ewalt; a sister, Carol Pemberton; and three brothers-in-law, William "Bill" See, Ralph Agee and Oscar Pemberton. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Doss Funeral Home, Edina, conducted by Pastor Mike Wilson and Dewayne Wellborn. Music will be provided by Carol Hays and Brent Karhoff. Burial with full military graveside honors by Knox City American Legion Post will be in Park View Memorial Gardens, Kirksville. Casket bearers will be Mark Klocke, Mike Hays, Robert Hubble, Todd Goodwin, Cedric Boone and Jaston Boone. VISITATION: After 2 p.m. Monday, June, 29, at the funeral home with family present 5 to 8 p.m. MEMORIALS: Colony Masonic Lodge or the Knox City American Legion Post. Garner, Marie - Barry  
BARRY, Ill. --Mrs. Marie Garner, 92, of Litchfield, formerly of Barry, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday (June 23, 2015) at Heritage Health, Staunton. She was born April 2, 1923, in Rockport, a daughter of Edward and Lulu Marie Hardy Blacketer. They preceded her in death. She married Milton I. Garner on Sept. 26, 1942, in Bowling Green, Mo. He died Sept. 26, 1995. Marie and her husband farmed together for many years in the Lima and Barry area. She was fond of sewing, cooking, oil painting, gardening and traveling. She is survived by one son, Milton E. (Cork) Garner, wife Mary L., of Monticello, Mo.; four grandchildren, Angela Hull and husband Jeff of Worden, Crystal Lewis and husband Ken of Mount Sterling, Cynthia Garner of Canton, Mo., and Tara Garner of Hannibal, Mo.; and 7 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three sisters, Lucy Hoskins of Hannibal, Evelyn Garner of Hannibal, and Delores Blacketer of Quincy. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Garner; and two brothers, Eugene Blacketer and William Blacketer. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport.
