Bertha M. Mixer, 93, of Quincy died at 7:46 p.m. Saturday (May 18, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.
Born June 25, 1919, near Ewing, Mo., Bertha was a daughter of Fredrick and Anna Lena Mueller Hohner. She married Arlie Mixer on Feb. 21, 1940. He died April 25, 2007.
Bertha was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, doing alterations and mending for friends. She and her husband farmed for many years in McDonough, Pike and Fulton counties. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker who loved cooking for her family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Mixer (Dana) of Tucson, Ariz., Roger Mixer (Sherrill) of East Moline, Ronald Mixer of Bloomington (Carol Shoreack of Morton) and Dennis Mixer (Cheryl) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Jeanette Huff of Danville; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Mixer (Amy Royster), Kenneth Huff (Nancy), Lisa Tarbell (Jim), Andrew Mixer (Julie), Kevin Huff (Angie), Kenton "Kit" Huff (Tracy), Krystal Vollmer (Randy), Joshua Mixer (Michelle), Richard Mixer (Leandra), Elisabeth Crabb (Evan) and Rebecca Mixer; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Annabelle Rhoads of Barry and Kathy Fanning (Bill) of Fowler. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Betty Hohner of Hannibal, Mo., Helen Hohner of New Mexico and Dorothy Hohner of Michigan; and several loving nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Kathy and Amy, who deserve our thanks and gratitude for being available for Mom when we couldn't be.
Mrs. Mixer was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Paul and Harold Hohner; and four sisters, Alice Bird, Edna Palmer, Matilda Dickensheets and infant Helen.
SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Mickey Farlow conducting. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, south of Fishhook.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday in the funeral home.
