Charles J. "Chuck" Yates

LIMA, Ill. -- Charles J. "Chuck" Yates, 65, of Lima, a well-known local radio personality, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 19, 2013) in his home.

Born Aug. 5, 1948, in Sparta, Chuck was a son of Stephen and Trannie Burt Yates.

Music was Chuck's passion. He played bass guitar for several local bands, including The Strata Kats, Lil Ronnie & the Impersonators and most recently for Mike & Co.

A graduate of Quincy High School and the Academy of Famous Broadcasters in Kansas City, Mo., Chuck became a fixture of local media. He began his career at WGEM Radio and in 1968 helped to launch KGRC Radio, where he worked until 1990. Chuck had also worked at WTAD and KHQA. In 2000, Chuck helped launch WPWQ "The Oldies 106.7," where he had the popular morning show "Chuck & Karen in the Morning." Chuck retired in 2007.

Survivors include four children, Emily Yates-Huneke (Derek), Travis Yates (Renea), Lindsay Yates and Kelly Yates, all of Quincy; and three grandchildren, Caitlyn Hecht, Brandon Hecht and Lucas Yates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, Kenneth Hardy.

VISITATION: 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Cremation rites have been accorded.
