Mrs. Cleta Mae Dewees, 91, of Sunset Home, Quincy, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday (March 17, 2014) in Sunset Home.
Born Dec. 22, 1922, in Pike County, Ill., Cleta was a daughter of Virgil and Nettie R. Nixon Smith. She married James Howard Dewees on Dec. 22, 1943. He died April 2, 1985.
Cleta loved sewing, creating and designing her own clothes as well as those for family and friends. She was employed for more than 25 years at Singer Sewing Machine Company in Quincy until her retirement. She later volunteered for Meals Plus for Seniors for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Mitchell (Robert Gary) of Payson; two grandchildren, Dawn Renee Cabato (Arcadio) of Hawaii and Lisa Lynn Stoner (Steve) of O'Fallon, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Arcadio Cabato, Anasaria Cabato, Amaris Cabato, Garret Stoner and Dallas Stoner; two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Annalee Cadwell, both of Barry; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dewees was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Howard Dewees; a sister, Betty Harris; and two brothers, Victor Smith and Lester Smith.
SERVICES: Private services were held for Mrs. Dewees. Burial was in Quincy Memorial Park.
