Donald D. Lafferty, 87, of 620 S. 17th St., died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday (June 18, 2013) in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Donald was born March 18, 1926, in Charlotte, N.C. On Aug. 27, 1949, he married Talma Marie Long in Vermont Street United Methodist Church. She survives.
Donald had been an electrical appliance serviceman in Detroit, Mich., before entering the U.S. Air Force
in the spring of 1946. While serving in the Air Force, he was stationed at Scott Air Base near Belleville, maintaining aircraft radio equipment. After leaving the Air Force in April 1949, Donald returned to Quincy where he became employed by Motorola and Awerkamp Machine companies as manager and consultant.
He enjoyed horseback riding with his daughter.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Cathy (Lynn) Bale of Chatham; a grandson, Christopher Bale of Chatham; a brother-in-law, Carl (Lena) Long of Columbia, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
SERVICES: 1 p.m. Friday in the All Faiths Chapel, Illinois Veterans Home, with the Rev. John Adams conducting. Burial will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
VISITATION: Noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the All Faiths Chapel.
