Donald Kent Grussemeyer, 68, of 2526 S. Eighth, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.
He was born Jan. 3, 1944, in Quincy, a son of Donald H. "Pat" and Charlotte Franklin Grussemeyer. He married Phyllis J. Wellman in November 1962. She survives.
Donald worked as a maintenance engineer at the Holiday Inn, retiring in 2006. He also worked for many years as a school bus driver and maintenance staffer for the Quincy Public Schools.
He was a 1962 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He enjoyed gardening, working around the house, watching NASCAR and spending time with friends and family. Donald was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a son, Donald R. Grussemeyer of Bloomington; a daughter, Deana (Tim) Filliman of Deerfield; a granddaughter, Cecelia Filliman; mother-in-law, Sylvia Wellman of Quincy; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Brenda) Wellman of St. Patrick, Mo., and Donald (Sharon) Wellman of Quincy; sisters-in-laws, Karen Reeves of Cullman, Ala., Judy Sharp of Las Vegas, and Joann (Sparky) Eversden of Quincy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Quincy Humane Society or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
