Donald "Smiley" Lewis, 85, of Quincy, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday (March 8, 2013) in his home.
Born May 2, 1927, in Oakwood, Mo., Donald was a son of Charles and Ruby Alyne Fisk Lewis. He married Elta "Sue" McDannald on Dec. 7, 1948, in Meredosia, celebrating 61 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 16, 2010.
Smiley enjoyed playing bingo, going to the boat, attending stock car and sprint car races, and he especially loved just hanging out at the car lots and garages with the car dealers. He was a member of Machinist Local Union No. 822 for 35 years.
Donald was employed as a machinist at Colt Industries for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he enjoyed delivering automobile parts and driving cars back from St. Louis for the local automobile dealerships.
Survivors include a son, Jeff Lewis (Cheryl) of Kenner, La.; three daughters, Linda Cramsey, Donna Lewis and Anita Vaughn (Blaine) and a daughter-in-law, Connie Lewis, all of Quincy; 22 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Mitchell Smith of Havana; two sisters, Bonita Rodberg (Eric) of Quincy and Barbara Miller of Camp Point; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Lewis of Omaha, Neb. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue; a son, Ronald Lewis; a granddaughter, Glenda Peters; a brother, Lloyd Lewis; and a daughter-in-law, Christina Sue Lewis.
SERVICES: 11:30 a.m. graveside Tuesday in Benville Cemetery.
VISITATION: 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
