PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Dorothy M. Kingery, 101, of Pittsfield, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) in the Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield.
Dorothy was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Pike County, a daughter of J.F. and Leanna Sanders Peer. When she was 7 years old, her parents moved to Aurora, Neb., where they lived for seven years. Her parents then moved back to Pittsfield where she lived the rest of her life.
On Dec. 24, 1938, she was united in marriage with Junior Kingery in New London, Mo., at the Methodist Church parsonage. He died Nov. 28, 1976.
She was employed at the Brown Shoe Co. for 27 years.
Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, United Methodist Church Fellowship Sunday school class, United Methodist Women and the Madonna Fellowship. She always enjoyed helping to care for the flowers in the church yard until her health failed her. She enjoyed cleaning her house and kept it immaculate at all times. She loved to eat out with her friends.
She dearly loved her grandkids and playing with them.
She is survived by one daughter, Roberta and Ervin Borrowman of Kinderhook; three grandchildren, Valerie (Mark) Gittings of Champaign, Duane (Brenda) Borrowman of Kinderhook and Karen (Tim) Coultas of Largo, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Chris Borrowman and Jared Borrowman of Kinderhook, Heather Borrowman Briscoe of Chillicothe, Mo., Nathan Gittings of Champaign, Natalie Gittings of Milwaukee, Wis., Ryan Gittings of Tampa, Fla., and Amanda and Katie Coultas of Largo, Fla.; and nine great-great-grandchild.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Clay, Bud and Kenneth Peer; and four sisters, Nellie, Dolly, Eva and Agnes.
SERVICES: Noon Saturday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, with J.D. Briscoe conducting. Interment will be private.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. to noon Saturday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: United Methodist Church or Blue River Cemetery.
