MOUNT STERLING, Ill. -- Dorothy M. Roberts, 99, of Mount Sterling, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 19, 2013) at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mount Sterling.
She was born May 18, 1914, in Shelby County, Mo., the daughter of James Christy and Lena Sophia Garrison Moore. She married George Leon Roberts on Oct. 5, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo., and he died on June 20, 1988.
Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and earlier in life worked as a registered nurse at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She graduated from Bethel High School in Bethel, Mo., and then graduated from Blessing School of Nursing with the Class of 1940.
Mrs. Roberts was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Mount Sterling.
Dorothy always enjoyed refinishing furniture, collecting Depression glass, hat pins and cake stands, making pottery and knitting and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She was a devoted grandmother and loved attended her grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Judy Roberts of Timewell; three grandchildren, Mark Roberts and his wife, Sandi, and Kathy Rohrer and her husband, John, all of Timewell, and Rita Roberts of Jacksonville; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Aimee Roberts and Leah Rohrer, all of Timewell; one great-great-granddaughter, Alaina Roberts of Timewell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, George Christy Roberts and one in infancy; one grandson in infancy; one granddaughter in infancy; and her twin sister, Doris Kruckemeyer.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church in Mount Sterling, with the Rev. Steve Surratt officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Sterling City Cemetery.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
