CAMP POINT, Ill. -- Duane Ralph Mullen, 77, of Fort Collins, Colo., passed into eternity with God on Wednesday (July 31, 2013) in Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins.
Duane was born on June 11, 1936, in Camp Point, a son of William Ralph Mullen and Ruth Bell Heathman. He was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen Pace, on Oct. 7, 1961, in Zenith.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps
, he made a long career out of driving, retiring at age 75. He drove semi-trucks and charter buses, a highlight of the latter being a nine-year term of driving the Jacksonville Suns baseball team. This fell in line with his love of baseball, beginning with the New York Yankees as a child, followed by a devotion to the Chicago Cubs.
Three words that sum up Duane's life: God, family and country.
Duane's family was his pride and joy. Duane and Mary had four children, Patricia Cummings (Troy) of Fort Collins, Kathryn Wooley (Michael) of White House, Tenn., Robert Mullen (Malissa) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michelle Brady Barker (Michael) of Orange Park, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Autumn Cummings Shea (Brian), Zachary Cummings (Christaline), Cameron and Emily Cummings, Joshua Wooley (Amanda), Matthew Wooley (Rayna), Sarah, Tommy and April Wooley, Justin Mullen (Ashley), Caleb and Gregory Mullen, Aeryn Brady La Mar (Torin) and Cameron and Nathan Barker; five great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
