Ellen Wray, 97, of the Good Samaritan Home, Quincy, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (March 11, 2013) in the home.
She was born March 6, 1916, in Quincy, a daughter of Henry J. and Clara Mohrman Speckhart. She married John Wray on Oct. 17, 1940, in Quincy. He died Aug. 9, 2001.
Ellen was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with friends, but her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College, Ellen was employed in the Adams County Probation Department for 14 years until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, James Wray (Mary Ann) of Quincy; a daughter, Charlotte Baecker (Charles) of Monroe City, Mo.; five grandchildren, J.D. Neiswender, John Michael Wray (Savy), David Alan Baecker (Victoria), Anne Baecker Duncan (Judson) and Shari Wray Robesky (James); 10 great-grandchildren, Sean Henry Robesky, Samantha Wray Robesky, Davi Elizabeth Wray, Isabel Mith Wray, John James Wray, Martha Elizabeth Duncan, Sarah Marie Duncan, Ruby Caroline Duncan, Eleanor Anne Baecker and Charlotte Marie Baecker; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wray was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janet Neiswender; three brothers, Arnold Speckhart, Frank Speckhart and Earl Speckhart; and two sisters, Ruth Frazier and Florence McIntyre.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Riley conducting.
VISITATION: 9 a.m. Wednesday until the services in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Good Samaritan Home or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
