CANTON, Mo. -- George Edgar Campen, 52, of Canton, died at 6:22 p.m. Saturday (March 1, 2014) at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
George was born Jan. 6, 1962, in Quincy. He was the son of the late Robert Frederick "Sarge" and Martha Jean Goodwin Campen.
George was a graduate of Canton High School and he received a certified welding and marine mechanics degree from Hannibal Area Vocational Technical School in 1980. He was employed by Hollister-Whitney Elevator in Quincy, for the past 24 years but his passion was farming. He could build anything and do anything.
George was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in LaGrange, a Lewis County volunteer leader in 4-H and a member of the Canton Eagle's Club Arie No. 1800.
George married his love, Marilyn Louise Schmitz, on May 9, 1992, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church. To this union was born Monica Ann, Jessica Elizabeth and Arthur James Campen, all of the home at Canton.
George was a quiet, gentle man, kind and gentle, loving and tender, firm when needed, but with a respectable approach. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife and children, a brother, Robert Chris (Jackie) Campen of Quincy; a sister, Margaret Ann (John) Terry of Columbia; his mother; uncles, Edward B. (Betsy) Campen of Billings, Mont., and Frederick Campen of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; an infant child; and grandmother, Margaret Caroline Campen.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Canton, with the Rev. Brian Stone officiating. Pallbearers are Mike Henderson, Les Eaton, John Campen, Linn Schmitz, Fred Howard and Alex Terry. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Campen, Fred Campen, Kenneth Campen, Ron Bradshaw, Ed Gooding, Randy Eaton and Judy Eaton. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.
VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton.
MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to the children's educational fund.
