Gladys Louisa Walters

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. -- Gladys Louisa Walters, 105, of Mount Sterling, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2013) in Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mount Sterling.

She was born Oct. 11, 1908, in Buckhorn Township in Brown County, a daughter of Ross and Fannie Boss Wagner. She married William O. Moran on Oct. 7, 1925. He preceded her in death. She later married William R. Walters on Nov. 28, 1946. He died Feb. 18, 1978.

She attended Brown County rural schools.

Mrs. Walters was a homemaker and had also worked as a machine operator for Wagner Electric Co. in St. Louis for several years. She was a member of Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church, the Mount Sterling Home Extension and the VFW Auxiliary in St. Louis.

Gladys always enjoyed crocheting, raising flowers and working in her yard.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Moran, and his wife, Pamela, of Mount Carmel; a daughter-in-law, Wilma Moran of Quincy; a stepson, James Walters, and his wife, Claudine, of Pasco, Wash.; a sister, Marjorie Wellenkamp of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Norma Wegs and Charles Moran; a stepson, Shirley Don Walters; three brothers, Kenneth Wagner and two in infancy; a sister, Helen Moran; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cecilia Granadosin conducting. Burial will be in Benville Cemetery in Brown County.

VISITATION: From noon until time of services Saturday in the church.
