Glen W. Spory, 72, of Quincy, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday (March 16, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Born Nov, 3, 1941, in Quincy, Glen was the son of Earl and Erma Marie Hufendick Spory. He married Connie Rathbun Roan on Oct. 23, 1976, in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Spory served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
Glen was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. Glen was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He also enjoyed woodworking and the exercise class at Cheryl Loatsch Fitness that he attended.
Mr. Spory was previously employed at Moorman Manufacturing and Huck Fixture Co. before becoming a self-employed carpenter working in the Quincy area for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; his father, Earl Spory of Quincy; two stepsons, Randy Roan (Laura) of Springfield, Ill., and Jeff Roan of Shawnee, Kan.; six stepgrandchildren, Amber Roan and Joshua Roan of Shawnee, Zachary Roan (Danielle), Cody Roan, Andrew Roan and Kerry Roan, all of Springfield; a stepgreat-grandson, Zander Roan of Springfield; a brother, Carl Spory (Norma) of Quincy; a sister, Ruth Penzkofer (Alan) of Odessa, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Larry Rathbun of Marblehead; a sister-in-law, Rita Huseman of Thornton, Colo.; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Spory was preceded in death by his mother, Erma.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Chuck Sackett. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.
VISITATION: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
