Harry Lee Krummel Jr., 91, died Monday (Jan. 26, 2013) in Memphis, Mo., where he had lived for the past three years.
Mr. Krummel was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Donnellson, Ill., a son of Harry Lee Krummel and Zula Grace Jett Krummel of Donnellson. He married Eileen Higgins on Oct. 2, 1947, in St. Rose of Lima Church in Quincy.
Mr. Krummell attended grade school in Donnellson and graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro in 1939.
Mr. Krummel served in the U.S. Navy
from September 1940 through June of 1946 and served on the USS Colorado. He completed his college degree at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., while serving in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Krummel was employed by Firestone Tire for several years in Centralia and Quincy.
After moving to Hillsboro, Mr. Krummel joined the U.S. Army
Reserves in Hillsboro where he was called to active duty from 1950 to 1952, serving in Atlanta, Ga. After leaving the military, Mr. and Mrs. Krummel moved to Quincy where he was employed at Moorman Manufacturing Co. for 31 years. Mr. Krummel retired as head of the sales management and records department.
After his retirement, Mr. Krummel lived at his home in Quincy with his wife Eileen until her death in 2006. Mr. Krummel moved to the Scotland County Residential Terrace, assisted living facility, in Memphis, Mo., in 2009.
In his earlier years, Mr. Krummel enjoyed making furniture, fishing, gardening and travel. He was an avid reader until the time of his death.
Mr. Krummel is survived by his son, Kevin L. Krummel and his wife, Suzette, of Quincy; his daughter, Catherine Frederick of Madison, Wis.; his daughter, Karen Durst and her husband, Ed Durst, of Quincy; and his daughter, Barbara Krummel Jervey and her husband, Steve Jervey of Downing, Mo. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Patrick Durst and wife Abby and daughter Madeline of Maryville, Mo., Christina Robb and husband Nathan of St. Louis, Joseph Durst of Columbia, Mo., Kathryn Krummel of Santa Clara, Calif., and Will Daniel Krummel and wife Eileen and son Theodore of Washington, Mo.
