Jackie Ray Martin

Jackie Ray Martin, 89, of Quincy, died at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, (Sept. 10, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.

Jackie was born on Feb. 10, 1924, in Warsaw, a son of Orville Granderson and Ethel Richardson Martin.

On Feb. 17, 1945, Jackie married Gloria Delores Little of Quincy. She succumbed to cancer on June 11, 1994, eight months short of what would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.

In Dec. 12, 1998, Jackie married Georgina Helen Brockschmidt of Quincy. She survives.

Jackie enlisted in the Navy after graduation in 1942 from Wood River East Alton Community High School. Petty Officer 2nd Class Martin served as a radio Technician aboard the Destroyer Escort, the USS Donnell in the European Theatre of Operations during WWII.

Jackie retired in 1983 from Michelmann Steel Construction Company, where he was employed as a sales representative and cost accountant. Jackie also did the payroll for Tri-State, a subsidiary of Michelmann. Jackie also farmed part-time in the Durham and Maywood, Mo. area on his much-loved little spread of 80 acres. In Oct. of 1999, Jackie retired from farming and moved to Quincy.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by, a daughter, Donna Rae Vaughn (Floyd) of Barry; a son, Gregory Mathew Martin (Pamela) of rural Palmyra, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Mrs. Paula Logsdon (Jesse) of Barry, Sean Wittler (Jocelyn) of San Jose, Seth Martin (Anna) of Palmyra, Kyle Martin of Lebanon, Mo., Asher, Anna, Anders, and Caleb Martin of rural Palmyra; seven great-grandchildren, Cameren, Evangeline and Eden Martin of Palmyra, Rebecca Brooks (Brett), Sarah Logsdon, Joshua Logsdon (Laaken) of Barry, and Jessica Wittler of Jacksonville; two great-great grandchildren, Krista Logsdon of Barry and Jackson Wittler of Jacksonville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Esther Martin of Dixon, Mrs. Bonnie Anderson (Howard) of Burton Township, Quincy, and Mrs. Dorothea Bowman of Quincy, Leland Miller of Quincy, and George James Fletcher, Jr. (Lilly) of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Jackie had also endeared himself to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jackie was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale Arden Martin and Maxwell Wayne Martin; sisters-in-law, Leona Miller, Dorothy Walker, Ruth Bradfield, Virginia Emery, and Geraldine Morrall; four brothers-in-law, Wayne Walker, Jay Bradfield, Tom Emery, and Walter Bowman.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Saturday in The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, and 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Msgr. Michael Kuse conducting. Interment in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Ewing, Mo., at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A parish prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Blessing Hospital Foundation for Hospice.
