James A. "Jim" Duesterhaus

James A. "Jim" Duesterhaus, 72, of 2130 Koch's Lane, died Wednesday (April 9, 2014) in the Sunset Home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Quincy, a son of Arthur E. and Leona E. (Frese) Duesterhaus. He married Rosemary Spalding on Oct. 20, 1962, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City, Mo. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in October 2012. She survives.

He spent the majority of his working life at E.M. Chatten Equipment Co.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Ed Duesterhaus and his wife, Terry, of Quincy, and Susan Utters and her husband, Vern, of Liberty; five grandchildren, Tina Fletcher, Chris Fletcher, Nicole Fletcher, and Danielle and Kayla Utters, all of Quincy; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Fletcher, Tiara, Olivia and KJ Edwards, Christian and Sophia Fletcher, and Quentin Smith; one sister, Joyce (Herb) Dietrich of Camp Point; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores (Danny) Hill of Maryland Heights, Mo., Elizabeth Johnson of Monroe City, David Michael (Sharon) Spalding of O'Fallon, Mo., John Vincent (Karon) Spalding of St. Charles, Mo., Jim (Paula) Spalding of St. Peters, Mo., Teresa (Vern) Reese of Stockton, Mo., and Nancy Spalding of St. Peters. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, David A. and Ethel P. (Delonay) Spalding; one grandchild, Jeremy Fletcher; and brothers-in-law, Richard Wayne Spalding and Jim Johnson.

The family would especially like to thank Jim's sister-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson, for taking such good care of him these last months.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
