CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Lela Mae Murphy, 100, of Carthage, passed away Thursday morning (Jan. 17, 2013) in her daughter's home in Carthage.
Lela was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Carthage, a daughter of Lee and Daisy Daily Siegfried. She graduated from Carthage High School and, on Sept. 20, 1930, was united in marriage to Phines Murphy in Carthage. They were married 81 years.
Lela loved spending time with family and enjoyed quilting. Lela was a member of the Ferris Christian Church.
Lela is survived by five children, Barbara (Marvin) Rohlf of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Ivan (Patt) Murphy of Carthage, Ray Murphy of Florida, Karen Murphy of Carthage and Donna (Larry) Ganion of Florida; 23 grandchildren; more than 45 great-grandchildren; and more than 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Carroll "Cork" Siegfried; two sisters, Laura Fleming and Irene Whewell; a daughter-in-law, Norrine Murphy; two grandsons, Mitch Murphy and Joe Murphy; and one great-grandson.
SERVICES: A memorial service for Lela and Phines will be held at the Ferris Christian Church at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, with the Rev. Clark Irwin conducting. A meal will be held prior to the service, with desserts and coffee following the service.
