CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Loralou Dye, 78, of Carthage, left this world at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 16, 2014) in Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Loralou was born at home in Bear Creek Township on Jan. 6, 1936, a daughter of George and Anna Schmidt Johnson. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1953 and then went on to graduate from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy.
She worked in Chicago for several years before returning to Basco. On Aug. 14, 1964, she was united in marriage to William Lee Dye. He preceded her in death.
Loralou assisted women for 35 years in childbirth as an obstetrics nurse at Memorial Hospital in Carthage and later headed the department. She retired in 1999. Loralou was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco.
Loralou is survived by two daughters, Lisa Dye of Carthage and Julie Dickson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren, Lacey (Jeremy) Preston, Larissa Yoho, Jacob Whitaker and Gwen Dickson; four great-grandchildren, Liberty and Trinity Preston and Abby and Kristian Yoho. They will miss their Grandma. She is also survived by two brothers, Gerald and Norman (Sharon) Johnson, both of Basco; and a sister, Marlys Johnson of Carthage.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joan Bavery and Judy Simmons; and a brother, Loren Johnson.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco with burial following in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.
VISITATION: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
MEMORIALS: Stork Stopp Obstetrics Unit at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
