EWING, Mo. -- Marvin E. "Gene" Garner, 78, of Ewing, died Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) in the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown.
Gene was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Quincy, Ill., a son of James and Lucy Saxbury Garner. He married Leta Pearl Wiley in LaGrange on Dec. 23, 1952. She died May 19, 2001.
Gene worked for Moorman Manufacturing until 1979. He later was an owner and operator truck driver for Chester Bross for 25 years. He enjoyed running his bulldozer, working in his garden and Sunday family dinners. He was an avid animal lover.
Gene is survived by his special friend, Donna Wolf, of Ewing; five children, Carolyn (Kerry) Abell of Durham, James (Roberta) Garner of Canton, Randy Garner of Monticello, Carma (Larry) Caldwell of Canton and Dennis (Sara) Garner of Durham; 13 grandchildren, Regina Lair, Lucy Sparrow, Bobby Lair, James (Flopper) Garner, Jayme Hickerson, John Garner, Adam Garner, Danielle, Kristyn and Brianna Caldwell, and Gregory, Derek and Cassidee Garner; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Garner and Wayne (Diane) Garner, both of Maywood; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Leta; one brother, Howard Garner; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Garner and Audrey Garner.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing, with the Rev. Tim Smith conducting. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery, Durham.
VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, with family receiving friends after 6 p.m.
