PALMYRA, Mo. - Marvin L. White, 86, of Palmyra, died at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 15, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.
He was born Aug. 10, 1927, near Palmyra, to Daniel W. and Ethel F. Emery White. Marvin married Ola Jane East Shumate Nov. 8, 1980, at Dover, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2010.
Marvin was a life-long farmer north of Palmyra. He also raised horses and draft horses. He was a graduate of Palmyra High School and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War
and was a member of Boots-Dickson Post 174 of the American Legion in Palmyra.
He was also a member of Dover Baptist Church near La Grange.
Marvin is survived by stepdaughters, Frances (Lester) Jennings of LaGrange and Janelle (Jerry) Frankel of Ursa, Ill.; brother-in-law, LeRoy (Gloria) Strate of Quincy, Ill.; sister-in-law, Gwen White of Lewistown, Ill.; nephews, Darrell (Nancy) Knapp of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Michael White of Tempe, Ariz., and Patrick White of Lewistown, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren; special family friends, Larry Copenhaver and Bill and Jeanette Pope; and many friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Strate and Doris Knapp; brothers, Norman and Harrison White; and a niece, Carolyn Knapp.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will conduct. Interment with military honors will be in Dover Cemetery near La Grange.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Palmyra Nutrition Center.
