Mary "Ermalee" Bowen

CLAYTON, Ill. -- Mary "Ermalee" Bowen, 96, a homemaker of Clayton, died at 11:22 p.m. Saturday (June 7, 2014) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Born Feb. 27, 1918, in Bowen, Ermalee was a daughter of James E. and Theresa Brown Garner. She married William Ross Bowen Oct. 28, 1958, in Quincy. He died Dec. 30, 1979.

Mrs. Bowen attended Clayton grade school and was a 1935 graduate of Clayton High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Ermalee had served as a Democrat election judge for several years in Clayton Township. She was a longtime member of the Clayton Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school treasurer for 42 years.

Survivors include a niece, Dixie Wallace of Clayton; two stepdaughters, Marge (Terry) Moore of Golden and Carolyn (Gale) Thoroman of Jacksonville; a nephew, James Stacey Wallace of LaPrairie; and seven stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Florabelle Walker; and a brother, Vernon Boss.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton with the Rev. Tim Todd officiating. Burial will follow at South Side Cemetery in Clayton.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton.
