Mary E. Summers, 78, of Quincy, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday (Jan. 3, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Born July 29, 1935, in Marblehead, Mary was a daughter of Russell O. and Thelma Doan Poor. She married Louis E. Summers Sr. on Nov. 10, 1952, in Brown County. He died Oct. 12, 2007.
Mary was a 1953 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1979 graduate of the Blessing School of Nursing. Mary was employed as a licensed practical nurse for various nursing homes in Quincy and home health care until her retirement in 2008.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing and reading. Mary made quilts and dolls for all of her grandchildren and especially loved being at the birth of her grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons, Louis E. Summers Jr. (Linda) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Russell Summers of Sarasota, Fla., Ronald Summers (Sherry) of Quincy and Donnie Summers (Peggy) of Palmyra, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, Laura, Lindsey, David, Dawn, Brian, Skylor, Jason, Randy, Eric, Shawnna, Shyann, Jeremy, Dawnie Jo, Steven Paul and Mary Gale; and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; a daughter, Diana Reddick; and a brother, Russell M. Poor.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Shaughnessy conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday morning until the time of services in the funeral home.
