Michael B. Stormer

Michael Stormer, 54, of Cumming, Ga., formerly of Quincy, died Monday (March 18, 2013) after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on Sept. 25, 1958, in Quincy, Mike was a twin son of Mary Bennett Stormer and Aaron Coley Stormer. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Church in Quincy.

After graduating from Quincy Senior High School, Mike and his brother Matt spent a year in Bremen, Germany, as exchange students. On his return from Germany, Mike attended the University of Illinois.

For 28 years, Mike worked in different capacities for the same organization in various cities, ending his career as a senior technical marketing engineer.

Mike loved to travel and during his short life visited many different countries. While studying in Germany, Mike backpacked through Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. He also visited South America and made several trips to South Africa and Botswana where he developed his love for photographing the African wildlife, especially the wild (painted) dogs. Reading and listening to music were other favorite pastimes.

Mike was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.

Mike is survived by his life-partner, Estelle; his mother, Mary Stormer of Quincy; his father, Coley Stormer of Quincy; his twin brother, Matthew "Matt" and older brother, Aaron "Toby," both of Quincy; stepchildren, twins Jolene Bell of Buford, Ga., and Jon-Paul Bell (Jessie) of Jacksonville, N.C.; a special aunt, Joyce (Jack) Stormer Settle of Quincy; an uncle, Robert Bennett of Quincy; and several cousins.

Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, EK "Benny" and Catherine Bennett; his paternal grandparents, Aaron and Marjorie Stormer; and an aunt, Carol (Bennett) Dierker.

SERVICES: 5 p.m. Monday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting. Private family interment will be held in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 p.m. Monday until the time of services in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to a Special Needs Trust for Toby Stormer in the name of Mary Stormer or to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
