PLEASANT HILL, Ill. --Minnie Maxine McElfresh, 82, of Beardstown, died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2013) in Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Springfield.
She was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Marblehead, a daughter of August and Mary Wilson Smith. She married William D. "Billy Mac" McElfresh on Oct. 17, 1949, in Quincy, and he died June 15, 2009.
Minnie graduated from Seymour Community High School in Payson in 1949. She was employed as a teacher's aide for the Beardstown Public Schools for 19 years and she also worked at the Beardstown Public Library. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, where she served as Sunday School teacher.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing cards with her "Club Girls."
Minnie had a very kind and caring heart, was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, and will be sadly missed.
Surviving are her sons, Gary (wife Shelia) of Quincy, Bruce (wife Melanie) of Brookfield, Mo., Rick (wife Patricia) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Brad (wife Terri) McElfresh of Springfield; grandchildren, Tara McElfresh of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Luke McElfresh of Hobart, Ind., Tess McElfresh of Kansas City, Mo., Wade McElfresh of Springfield, Mo., Max McElfresh of Springfield, and Mitchell McElfresh of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sisters, Inez Bailey of Quincy and Shirley (husband Gary) Bowen of Canton, Mo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, by her parents; her husband; her grandson, Matthew McElfresh; three sisters, Celia Cooper, Mae Goodwin and Norma Miller; and nine brothers, August Jr. "June," Earl, Ralph "Peck," Jim (surviving wife Edna Smith of Quincy), Billy, Carl "Cork," Clifford, Delbert and Tomas Smith.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in Perry Wells Cemetery near Pleasant Hill.
VISITATION: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Sager Funeral Home, Beardstown.
MEMORIALS: Matthew McElfresh Memorial Scholarship Fund.
