PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Nell V. Bader, 86, of Pittsfield, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 2, 2013) in Liberty Village, Pittsfield.
She was born in Decatur on Feb. 7, 1927, the daughter of William B. and Lola C. Green Lemme. She married James C. Elledge in Quincy on Dec. 7, 1946. He died March 13, 1965. Nell later married Howard O. Bader in Bader, Ill., on Dec. 27, 1969. He died Jan. 2, 1980.
When Nell was 2 years old, the family moved to Scott County where she attended Naples School for three years, later moving to Bluffs and graduating from Bluffs High School. She was a graduate of MacMurray College in Jacksonville and Gem City Business College in Quincy.
Before becoming a teacher
, Nell worked at Quincy Medical Clinic at 14th and Maine in Quincy. She was an elementary school teacher for 32 years, teaching third through sixth grade in Baylis, and later at Pikeland Unit 10, Pittsfield, teaching the fourth grade class at South School.
Nell's interests were her grandchildren, traveling, gardening and bird watching. She was a member of the Missouri Botanical Society and Morgan County Audubon Society, Sorosis Club, Country Couples and a member and past president of the Pittsfield Garden Club. She enjoyed going to the theater and to concerts and was a volunteer for Illini Hospital for 20-plus years. She was an active member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church and cherished her church family and friends.
She is survived by her grandson, Joshua James Elledge, and great-grandson, Wyatt Case Elledge, of St. Louis; her granddaughter, Brianna Marie Elledge, of Clarksville, Tenn., and daughter-in-law, Judy L. Elledge, of Clarksville. Two granddaughters, Amy Christine and Sara Melissa, of Washington state, daughters of her son by a previous marriage, also survive along with a nephew, Rene C. Lemme, of Vienna; a niece, Karen Ann Ridenour, of Bellville, Ohio; a stepson, Verne Howard (wife, Cathy) Bader of Meredosia; and a stepdaughter, Mary Elaine Bader, of Browning.
In addition to her two husbands, Nell was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gordon C. Lemme, of Bluffs; a cousin, Vera Magill; and her only child, Kevin Chase Elledge, of St. Louis in 2007.
SERVICES: 1 p.m. Friday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Dave Kelly conducting. Interment will be in Baylis Cemetery.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
