TIMEWELL, Ill. -- Nina Carlene Meservey, 95, of Timewell, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday (Oct. 28, 2013) in Blessing Hospital, Quincy.
She was born July 18, 1918, in Mount Sterling Township in Brown County, a daughter of Earl G. and Blanche Dunbar Robbins. She married Harold Lozell Meservey on Dec. 30, 1945, in Mount Sterling, and he died May 5, 2003.
Mrs. Meservey was a homemaker. Earlier in life she served as the secretary for the AAA office in Mount Sterling where her duties included measuring farmland and figuring acreage. Nina also was a reporter
for the Democrat Message for several years.
She attended Crossroads and Oakland schools, both in Brown County, and then attended Timewell High School. She graduated from Mount Sterling High School with the class of 1936.
Mrs. Meservey was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Timewell, where she served in many capacities, including as pianist and Sunday school teacher and was a member of the American Baptist Women. Nina had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was involved in 4-H. She was a charter member of the American Legion Post 1059 Auxiliary, was a member of the Timewell PTA and had served as a Republican precinct committeewoman for many years.
Survivors include three children, Marvin (Deb) Meservey of Mount Sterling, Marlene (Mark) Lummis of Camp Point and Marilyn (Dan) Seckman of Versailles; one brother, Charles (Dorothy) Robbins of Countryside; nine grandchildren, Abbey (Brady), Lacey (Chad), Brett (Kate), Brandi (Jesse), Amy (Jeff), Joni, Krista, Darren and Jake; seven great-grandchildren, Trey, Bryce, Jordyn, Jaden, Sophie, Stella and Jonah; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Francis Robbins.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in the Timewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Gadberry conducting. Burial will be in the Mount Sterling City Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling. Friends also may call one hour prior to services on Friday in the church.
