MAYWOOD, Mo. -- Mrs. Norma J. LaVingon, 87, of the Country Aire Retirement Estates, Lewistown, formerly of Maywood, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2013) in the home.
Born Nov. 27, 1925, in Plymouth, Ill., Norma was a daughter of Wayne and Elsie McTee Clark. She married Donald A. LaVingon on July 22, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1985.
Norma was a 1943 graduate of Plymouth High School.
Norma worked for a short time as a hostess at the Holiday Inn when it first opened in Quincy. She was later employed as the superintendent of the Adams County Youth Home by appointment of County Judge Richard F. Scholz for several years. After her retirement she opened and managed a restaurant in the Quincy Regional Airport for several years.
She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, fishing, league bowling, keeping her diary and especially loved her four poodle dogs, Lucky, Mae Mae, Bubba and Suzie.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Stacy John and her husband, Daniel of Macomb; three great-grandchildren, Claire Rittenhouse of Macomb and twins Marly Buyck and Dylan Buyck, both of East Moline; and close friends and caregivers, Doug and Karen Fields of Ewing.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a son, David LaVingon; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services in the funeral home.
