Priscilla Joy Ostrander Riley, 65, of rural Quincy, died Monday (Aug. 19, 2013) in her home.
She was born Sept. 22, 1947, in Mishawaka, Ind., a daughter of Lee and Dorothea Hofius Ostrander.
Mrs. Riley moved to the Quincy area in 1964, where she went to nursing school and worked as a CNA and an X-ray technician until retirement.
Mrs. Riley enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and she did a great deal of gardening and reading in her spare time. Always one to help those less fortunate and in need, she donated to charities throughout the United States and sponsored children in India.
Over the years, Mrs. Riley opened her home to dozens of foster children while permanent homes were being sought for them. She also enjoyed caring for animals on her rural farm, where she had dozens of animals that the grandchildren enjoyed visiting and playing with.
As a lover of nature, Mrs. Riley enjoyed spending time on the family lakefront land in Minnesota and riding her horses throughout the hills and streams of rural Quincy.
She is survived by two children, Jason Riley and his wife, Annette, of Liberty, and Brad Riley and his wife, Christie, of Lake Mary, Fla.; three grandchildren, Marissa Riley, Rachel Riley and Caden Riley; one brother, Henry Ostrander and his wife, Jeo Oiesen, of Taos, N.M.; and her longtime companion, Bob Oitker of Liberty.
