BOWEN, Ill. -- Ragene F. Wartick, 89, of Bowen, died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2014) at the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal
Ragene was born in Keokuk, Iowa on July 31, 1924, the daughter of Elmer and Marie Peters Trautvetter.
She graduated from Keokuk Senior High and then the family moved to Illinois. On Jan. 8, 1944, married Elmo "Butch" Wartick in Quincy.
Being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she treasured moments spent with her family. She loved the outdoors, working with flowers, gardening and trees. She was the first librarian of what was originally called the Chili Library and enjoyed books. Any free time would find her with books. She was a den mother, and often helped in church activities. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past president and other offices, and the VFW
Auxiliary in Augusta. She also loved to travel. A member of the Christian faith, she attended Bowen Christian Church for many years.
Loved ones left behind are children, Zoe (Greg) Tift of LeRoy, and Rodney (Judy) Wartick of Bowen; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her sister, Kathryn Breshear of Peoria, and a good neighbor and caretaker, Teresa Wood of Bowen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Sylvia Mecum; a beloved sister, Oneta Filbrandt, and an aunt, Glenna Oberling.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday at the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Loraine New Cemetery at Loraine.
VISITIATION: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
MEMORIALS: Bowen Library or the Bowen Christian Church.
