Robert Joseph Spring, 77, of 714 S. 22nd, Quincy, died at 7:24 a.m. Sunday (May 4, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Robert was born May 5, 1936, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Joseph Albert and Dorothy Lefever Spring. He married Mildred Rose Wellman on June 29, 1963, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Quincy. She survives.
He was a 1955 graduate of Carthage High School. He served in the U. S. Navy as a sonar man from 1958 to 1962. After his time served in the U.S. Navy
, Robert worked many years at Motorola where he met his wife, Mildred. He also worked for Huck's Fixture for 17 years where he retired. Later on, after succumbing to boredom, Robert decided to re-join the work force where he worked with the Washland Laundry Mat for the last 12 years.
He volunteered at the Quincy Police Department and went through the Senior Police Academy, the Citizen Police Academy and was very active with the Neighborhood Watch program.
In addition to his wife, Mildred, survivors include their four children, Leo (Roscel), Michael (Andrea), Melissa (Michael) and Monica.; and by their seven grandchildren, Isabella, Noah and Vincent Spring (father, Leo, of Elkhart, Ind.), Sebastian and Matilda Spring (father, Michael, of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) and Dustin and Duane Klingele (mother, Melissa, of Payson) and his sister, Martha Habben of Carthage.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Church of St. Peter, with Monsignor Leo Enlow officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a wake service at 4 p.m.
