PAYSON, Ill. -- Roberta R. Hamm, 89, of Payson, died at 7 p.m. Monday (March 10, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Born March 26, 1924, in Chapin, Roberta was a daughter of Norris and Freda Ragan Ray. She married Percy "P.L." Hamm on Feb. 24, 1943, in Fort Sill, Okla. He died March 5, 1982.
Roberta was a sales clerk for Grants Department Store in Quincy for several years until her retirement. After her retirement, she became a caretaker and babysitter for her family.
Roberta was a member of Payson Christian Church. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, sewing, flower gardening, car rides and going to appointments with her good friend, Juanita Maple.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Ginny Tipton (Scot) of Monroe City, Mo., Kelly Damon (Tommy) of Quincy, Scott Spears (Kristin) of Jacksonville, Steve Spears (Denise) of Fowler, and Stacey Spears of Quincy; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicole Fox, Chrissy Jensen (Tyler), Morgan Twiehaus (Dustin), Emalie Damon, Thomas Damon II, Abagale Damon, Chevie Damon, Zachery Spears, Sophia Spears, Hailee Hobbs and Logan Hobbs; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hamm was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Patricia "Patty" Spears; one son, James Hamm; two brothers, William Ray and Lamoine Ray; and one sister, Lucille Duncan.
SERVICES: 2 p.m. Friday in the Payson New Cemetery with the Rev. Timothy White conducting.
VISITATION: 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, Quincy.
