Roger Lee Hyer, 86, of 2210 Cherry Lane Estates West, Quincy, died at 5:20 p.m. Monday (May 6, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.
Roger was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Paloma, the son of Frank and Anna Schieferdecker Hyer. He married Naomi Weisenberger Sept. 23, 1950, in Liberty. She died on May 29, 2002. He married Elaine Leenerts on May 15, 2004, in Clayton. She survives.
Roger was a 1944 graduate of Mendon High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War
where he was awarded a Purple Heart
Roger was employed at Moorman Manufacturing for more than 20 years as a delivery driver. He also worked for Scholfield Veterinary Supply.
He was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served in many roles over the years. He enjoyed collecting farm toys and trucks, and was a member of American Legion Post 37.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hyer of Quincy; two sons, Steven R. (fiancee, Mary-Ann Kaufman) Hyer, and Gary L. (Kathy) Hyer, both of Quincy; two stepchildren, Sandi (Roger) Watts of Jacksonville, and Steven Leenerts of Clayton; a grandson, Lee Alan Hyer of Quincy; three stepgrandchildren, Scott Shipman of Mount Sterling, Nicole Shipman of Swisher, Iowa, and Kayla (Bill) Steele of Pekin; and a brother, Harold Hyer of Coatsburg.
Roger was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi; his parents; a brother, Eugene Hyer; a sister-in-law, Lois Hyer; and a nephew, Randy Hyer.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Martin Eden officiating. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum, Quincy.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
