Rosemary E. Jenkins

LORAINE, Ill. -- Rosemary Evangelene Jenkins, 86, of Loraine, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2012) in North Adams Home in Mendon.

Rosemary was born on May 25, 1926, in Honey Creek Township. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Heipke Dirks Eicken. She married Clyde Roscoe Jenkins on May 24, 1946 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden. Clyde died Nov. 10, 2004.

Rosemary graduated from Carthage College in Carthage with a degree in business administration and did graduate work at Western Illinois University in Macomb. She was a member of the local teachers' association, I.E.A. and N.E.A. When she first started teaching, she taught at Webster School near West Point and at Washington School near Loraine, both being one-room country schools. She taught two years at Bentley School in Bentley, where she was the principal as well as taught grades 5 through 8. She taught at the old Mendon Grade School for 1 ½ years, and Loraine Grade School for 13 years, then for the Unity Middle School in Mendon, where she was the sponsor for the Middle School Student Council for eight years.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved cooking, reading, traveling, gardening, canning, crocheting, needle point and, especially, spoiling her grandchildren.

Surviving are one son, Gerald (Therese) Jenkins of Loraine; one daughter, Sharon (Rob) Moore of Memphis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Timothy) Ogle of Loraine and Chase (Briana) Moore of Quincy; one great-grandson, Hunter Ogle of Loraine; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Eicken; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Eldon Eicken; a brother-in-law, Marion (Fonda) Jenkins; and father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Ruby Jenkins.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon, with the Rev. Oliver Taube conducting. She will be laid to rest in New Loraine Cemetery near Loraine.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with an Eastern Star service at 4:45 p.m.

MEMORIALS: Eastern Star or the Keene Township Cemetery Association.
