Roy L. Bridgman, 87, of 8911 Rock Quarry Road, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday (June 14, 2013) in his home.
He was born June 6, 1926, in Quincy, a son of Andy and Winifred Drummond Bridgman. On May 10, 1947, he married Betty B. Young in Kansas City, Kan. She died in December 1990.
Roy served in the United States Army
during World War II
. He worked in maintenance for Prairie Farms Dairy for 23 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Pam (Steve) Apple of Palmyra, Mo., Patty (Dan) Smith of Tustin, Calif., and Paula Jones of Hamilton; a son, Daniel (Julie), of Quincy; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Andy "Gene" (Jane) of Taylor, Mo., and Ronnie and Donnie, both of Quincy; five sisters, Luella Houston of Quincy, Connie Heilwagon of Ursa, Mary Hall of Quincy, Sharon Bridgman of Quincy and Bonnie Eickelschulte of Quincy; his longtime friend and companion, Marie Damon, and her children, Don Damon and Rosemary Hatfield; a brother-in-law, Virgil (Ruby) Young, of Hannibal, Mo.; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike; two daughters, Penny Lugering and Peggy Shannon; three sisters, Ruth Reed, Nancy Jones and Vonetta Bridgman; three brothers, James, Lyle and John "Tiny"; and two infant siblings.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in Quincy Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post 37. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
MEMORIALS: Disabled Veteran's Association or Blessing Hospice.
