Sheri L. Cockrum, 46, of Springfield, died at 10 a.m. Saturday (June 8, 2013) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Sheri was born Aug. 24, 1966, in Gainesville, Ga., the daughter of Darrel Eugene and Mary Lou Arnold Cockrum.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1984, Sheri moved to Sarasota, Fla. She worked as an office administrator for a chiropractor office. While in Sarasota, Sheri loved the beach and being out in the sun. In 1991, Sheri moved to Springfield where she was an office administrator for a doctor's office. She held various jobs, with the latest being an accounts payable administrator at Simplex Inc. where she often baked for her co-workers. Sheri enjoyed spending time with her dear friends and listening to country music. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed taking walks with her beloved dog, Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her maternal uncle, John Craig Arnold; maternal grandfather, John Arnold; and paternal grandparents, Darrell LeRoy and Marjorie Klocke Cockrum.
She is survived by her parents, D. Eugene "Gene" and Mary Lou Cockrum of Mendon; maternal grandmother, Noranne King of Quincy; a sister, Gina L. Cockrum of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Warren Shane Cockrum of Quincy; aunt and uncle, Sue and Doug Clarke of Springfield; first cousin, Chad (Kim) Clarke of Marietta, Ga.; first cousin JC (Angie) Clarke of Rochester; two great-aunts, Sandra Miller of Tucson, Ariz., and Dorothy Mahla of Quincy; two great-uncles, William (Pat) Binger of Quincy and Frank (Lydia) Klocke of Leonard, Mo.; and several cousins.
The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and techs on the 2nd Floor Oncology Department at Memorial Medical Center who kept Sheri and family as comfortable as possible. They are true angels.
SERVICES: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday the family will host a celebration of Sheri's life at Central Baptist Church, Seventh and Broadway in Quincy. Service and luncheon will follow.
