Shirley Jean Blomgren, 84, of 1233 Springdale N., Quincy, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) in her home.
Shirley was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Quincy, a daughter of W.E. and Margaret Thyson Knox. She married Elmer "Bud" Blomgren on Feb. 14, 1948, in Quincy. He died on May 16, 1989.
She was a 1946 Quincy High School graduate, and attended Glendale College in California, where she met her future husband, and Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
She was employed on the assembly line at Motorola and worked in the nursery at St. Mary Hospital. After the death of her husband, she worked for 23 years as an in-home caregiver for the elderly. She cleaned, fixed meals and cared for people wanting to stay in their homes. She was a very caring and loving person. She retired this past spring.
Shirley was active in Ellington Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and had still been serving as a deacon.
Survivors include three sons, Alan Blomgren and Gary Blomgren, both of Quincy, and Steven (Beatriz) Blomgren of Mesa, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Stephanie Blomgren of Mesa; a sister, Gwen Kenady of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Carl and Jessie Blomgren; and her brother-in-law, Robert Kenady.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in Ellington Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jim Dennis and the Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Burial will be in Ellington Home Cemetery
VISITATION: 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
