MOUNT STERLING, Ill. -- Veda Furn Bowen Hall, 99, of Mount Sterling, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday (Sept. 9, 2013) in Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mount Sterling.
She was born Nov. 10, 1913, near Hersman, a daughter of Timothy and Lois Ruth Hall Bowen. She married Earl Hall on April 6, 1935, and he died Dec. 15, 1979.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker and also worked for Roots Tomato Canning Factory for six years and worked for restaurants in Versailles and Mount Sterling for more than 27 years. After her retirement Veda cared for many elderly people in the community and was the 1989 recipient of Brown County's Most Caring Person Award.
She attended Brown County schools and was a member of a non-denominational religion. Veda always enjoyed putting puzzles together, taking pictures and volunteering to help anyone in need. Mrs. Hall was known as an excellent cook and was always happy to share what she cooked with her family and many friends.
Survivors include two brothers, James Bowen and his wife, Ada, and Lyle Bowen, all of Quincy. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anna Irene Hall in infancy; four brothers, Freddie Oscar Bowen in infancy, Cecil, Clarence and Donald Bowen; three sisters, Ruby Florence, Kathryn Lucille and Betty Ruth Bowen, all in infancy; and a niece, Betty Patterson.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling with Scott Hanks and Jeff Thayer officiating. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery south of Mount Sterling.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
