LIBERTY, Ill. -- Verna M. Cannell, 86, formerly of Liberty and the Payson area, died at 5:33 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) in Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo.
Born Sept. 10, 1926, in Perry, Ill., Verna was the daughter of Homer and Bertie Bradbury. She married Matthew N. Cannell on March 21, 1948, in Perry. He died Oct. 11, 1925.
Verna enjoyed reading and traveling. She was devoted to her family and cherished time spent with them.
A graduate of Perry High School and the Blessing Hospital School of Nursing, she was employed as a registered nurse at Blessing Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Richard Cannell (Jean), and a daughter, Teresa Short (Michael), both of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Cannell of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Matthew Cannell of Quincy, and Angela Hopkins (Ryan), Amanda Cunninham (Jeff), Arin Cannell, Lauren Myers (Luke), MichaelDavid Short and J.D. Short, all of Kansas City; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Bradbury of Perry; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cannell was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rodney Cannell; and a sister, Ethel Cooley.
SERVICES: 1 p.m. Sunday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy, with Pastor Robert Morwell conducting. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday morning until the services in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Union United Methodist Church or Blessing Hospital Foundation.
