KINDERHOOK, Ill. -- Vernadine Hanes, 82, of Kinderhook, died Saturday (Sept. 7, 2013) in the Eastside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pittsfield.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Carlock, a daughter of Roy and Mary Thacker White. She married Joe Hanes in 1949 in Peoria. He died March 11, 2010.
Vernadine was a homemaker who loved serving her Lord, whether it was being active in the Hannibal Assembly of God Church or the Family Worship Center in Atlas or shopping for or giving to those in need. Many individuals were clothed and fed through Vernadine's generosity. She loved her Lord and was active in the church, especially in the Bus Ministry and winning souls for Jesus.
Vernadine loved to hunt and fish with her husband, Joe. She also loved her horses. She had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include two sons, Joe (wife, Nettie) Hanes Jr. and Jonathan (Nina) Hanes, both of Rockport; two daughters, Rita Jo (husband, James) Baker of St. Peters, Mo., and Bonnie (husband, Marvin) Cox of Prosper, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Delmar White, of Hannibal, Mo.; a sister, Dottie Perry, of Peoria; and a sister-in-law, Nancy White, of Peoria.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bud and Jim White and twin boys in infancy; and two sisters, Betty and Esther.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Niebur Funeral Chapel, Barry, with James Baker conducting. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers, near Bloomington.
VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, Vernadine's wish was that memorials be donated to your church in her memory.
