Virginia F. Meyer, 89, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Camp Point, died peacefully in her sleep Friday (March 22, 2013) in the home.
She was born May 21, 1923, in Quincy, a daughter of Clemens and Clara Obert Frericks. She married Leonard Meyer on June 10, 1942. He died Jan. 22, 2013.
Virginia graduated from eighth grade at St. Michael School. She worked for St. Mary's Hospital in the laundry department and was a housekeeper for various people. She was a lifetime homemaker.
Virginia was an avid quilter and enjoyed making them for family and church. She also loved her flowers and always had a beautiful yard. She was a member of St. Thomas Church and the Altar and Rosary Society at the church.
She is survived by 11 children, Carol Wehner and her husband, Robert, of San Antonio, Patricia Requet of Quincy, Leonard Meyer and his wife, Theresa, of St. Peters, Mo., Richard Meyer and his wife, Linda, of Quincy, Darlene Leithoff and her husband, Johnnie, of Quincy, Rita Schulze of Quincy, James Meyer and his wife, Charolette, of Fowler, Susan Schoonover and her husband, Steve, of Quincy, Judith Eschman and her husband, Barry, of Lockhart, Texas, Andrew Meyer and his wife, Tammy, of Quincy and Ann Peck and her significant other, Randy Stark, of Quincy.
Survivors also include 27 grandchildren, Tina Hickman and her husband, Larry, Jim Wehner and his wife, Denise, Kim Requet and her significant other, Adam Stice, Adam Requet and his wife, Joy, Bryce Meyer and his fiancÃ©, Andrea Erb, Ryan Meyer and his wife, Kym, Angela Seydel and her husband, Mat, Joshua Meyer and his wife, Julie, Jordan Meyer and his girlfriend, Theresa Schucci, Kristina Garofano, Craig Meyer, Alex Meyer, Connie Heberlein and her husband, "T," Melissa Johannessen and her husband, John, Johnnie Leithoff Jr. and his significant other, Marilyn Rossiter, Scott Schulze, Shawn Schulze and his wife, Shara, Sara Schulze and her significant other, Glen Vaughn, Ian Meyer and his wife, Brandi, Justin Meyer and his wife, Ashley, Stephanie Schoonover, Jeremy Schoonover and his wife, Jeni, Lisa Goerlitz and her husband, Rick, Jason Eschman, Maranda Meyer and her fiancÃ©, Mike Amons, Dr. Andrew Meyer and Jason Peck; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Schutte and Sr. Clarita Frericks; a sister-in-law, Barb Frericks; and two brothers-in-law, Ambrose Meyer and Frank Meyer and his wife, Isabell.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, George, Joseph, Fred, John, Matthias, Anthony and Eugene Frericks; three sisters, Agnes Frericks, Sister Mary Catherine and Sister Mary Andrea; and a son-in-law, Steve Schulze.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Camp Point. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, Quincy.
MEMORIALS: Blessing Foundation for Hospice, St. Thomas Catholic Church, or Alzheimer's Unit at the Good Samaritan Home.
