Richard McCartney Obituary

Richard A. McCartney, 68, of 612 N. 12th St., died Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2011) in Kindred Hospital, Peoria.

He was born Dec. 10, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of Alton John and Mary E. Dobson McCartney. He married Suellen Strieker on Feb. 14, 1970, in Quincy's St. Rose Catholic Church, and she survives.

Richard was retired after serving 20 years in the U.S. Armed Forces. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and 16 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Following his discharge, he worked for Sharkey Transportation for 19 years.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Richard loved camping and being with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, survivors also include a son, Paul E. McCartney and his friend, Leann, of Quincy; two daughters, Jennifer A. McCartney and Mary E. Hay and her husband, Douglas, all of Pekin; five grandchildren, Dillon and Lauryn Howser and Evan Hay, all of Pekin, Abbie McCartney of Galesburg and Seth McCartney of South Carolina.; a sister, Marilyn Leon, of Potomac, Md.; a sister-in-law, Peggy Woodward of Mount Dora, Fla.; and nieces and nephews, including a nephew, Robert Woodward, of North Carolina.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Richard; and a half-brother, Robert Woodward.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home conducted by Brother Duc Pham, O.F.M. Burial with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 37 and the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Detail will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Thomas Strieker Scholarship Fund at Quincy Notre Dame High School, donor's choice or Masses in his memory.

ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
