Erma Isabelle Burton

Erma Isabelle Burton, 97, formerly of 2900 State St., Apt. 204B, Quincy, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday (May 31, 2011) in North Adams Home in Mendon.

She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Quincy, a daughter of Ivan and Elizabeth Perkins Franklin. She married Raymond F. White, and he preceded her in death. She married the Rev. Waldo M. Burton on Jan. 9, 1954, and he died on Jan. 3, 1985. Later, she married Leon Meleney, and he died on Aug. 4, 2008.

She was a 1932 graduate of Maplewood High School in Camp Point. She worked for Likes Jewelry Store and Block and Kuhl in Quincy. She was self-employed as a dog groomer for many years and raised poodles.

Erma was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Leonard Schnellbecker of Fowler, and Deb (Dick) Lawson of West Point; a great-granddaughter, Heather Crouch of Quincy; a great-great-grandson, Marcus Gilbert of Quincy; a son-in-law, James Schnellbecker of Fowler; a stepdaughter, Shirley Baker of Mount Sterling; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, James Ray White; her daughter, Norrita Schnellbecker; a brother, William Franklin; and a sister, Charlotte Grussemeyer.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Rains conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
