Arlo Gene Parker Obituary
LIBERTY, Ill. -- Arlo Gene Parker, 79, of Liberty, died Wednesday (May 7, 2014) in the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, Mo.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1935, in Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Lyle and Leona Repplinger Parker.

After graduating from high school, Gene furthered his education at Monmouth College where he received his bachelor's degree. He then went to Kirksville State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo., where he earned his master's degree.

Gene had been employed at Central High School near Camp Point as a teacher and taught business law, typing and computer classes for 31 years, until his retirement in 1990. He also did accounting and taxes for Starr's Garage in Nauvoo for many years.

He loved to collect antique cars, refinish antique furniture and spend time outdoors in his flower and vegetable garden.

He is survived by one sister, Marcia Means and her husband, Arnold, of Ballwin, Mo.; one nephew, Randy Means and his wife, Rhonda, of Overland Park, Kan.; two great-nieces, Shelly Means and Tara Means; and one great-great-nephew, Andrew Means.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mark Anderson and Mark Lowman conducting. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A luncheon for family and friends will be held following the service in the Hotel Nauvoo.
