MENDON, Ill. -- Barbara "Joan" Mittelberg, 84, of Mendon, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Monday (April 21, 2014) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Joan was born on Aug. 5, 1929, in Pittsfield, to the late Francis T. and Barbara Harris Smith. She married Glenn V. Mittelberg on Jan. 13, 1950, in Quincy. Glenn passed away on Dec. 31, 2010. Joan was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fowler. She enjoyed playing golf, quilting, crocheting, doing yard work, gardening, cooking, baking and loved spending time with her family. Surviving are three children, Danny (Judy) Mittelberg of Ewing, Mo., Shirley (Michael) Hayden of Mendon, and Sherri (Dale) King of Mendon; six grandchildren, Daniel (Karen ) Mittelberg of Ewing, Doug (Mary) Mittelberg of Lewisport, Ky., Jacob (Alexandria) Hayden of Chicago, Sarah (Bob) Jubina of Joplin, Mo., Lucas (Cassie) King of Quincy, and Adam (Linda) King of Springfield; and great-grandchildren, Josh, Ryan, Nathan, Joey, Ian, Meghan, Aidan, Amelia, Abigail, Hayden, Bradley and one on the way. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Jean Smith of Pacific Grove, Calif. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Smith and Hayward Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Devon and Karmen Mittelberg. SERVICES: Private family services will be held in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with the Rev. Keela Neumann conducting. Private interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy.
