Bette Jeanne Mullen, 89, of 1213 Highland Lane, died at 11:48 p.m. Saturday (April 19, 2014) in St. Vincent's Home. Bette was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Quincy, a daughter of Charles Roy and Adeline Shurt Rossiter. She married Robert A. Mullen on July 22, 1945, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He died Jan. 23, 2008. Bette was a 1941 graduate of Quincy High School. After graduation, she spent most of the war years working as a secretary for Gardner-Denver. In spite of spending a large portion of her life raising five sons, Bette was able to travel the world. She and Robert had been to Spain, Mexico, Bermuda, Poland, Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Taiwan and India. Survivors include five sons, James R. Mullen of Quincy, Patrick Mullen of Niles, Mich., William R. Mullen of Steger, Barry E. Mullen of Hanna, Ind., and Christopher R. (Tammy) Mullen of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Ann Qualls, of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Walter Kenneth, Samuel Roy and Charles Ray Rossiter; and two sisters, Dorothy Story and Rosemary Boden. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Donor's choice.
