CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Brent Hanson, 71, of Carthage, died at 8:25 a.m. Monday (March 31, 2014) in his home. Brent was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Henry, S.D., a son of Edwin and Eleanor Marie Knutson Hanson. On Nov. 4, 2000, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Boyer at the Burnside Christian Church. He attended Henry High School, graduating in 1960. He had served in the U.S. Army Reserves for many years. Brent held the position of Vice President at Marine Bank and Trust in Carthage for 30 years. He then served as Hancock County Treasurer. Brent enjoyed restoring International and Jeep vehicles. He was currently working with Scout Connection in Fort Madison restoring International vehicles. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and taught hunter safety classes for many years. Brent is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Carthage; a daughter, Kirsten Hanson of Lisbon, Portugal; Carolyn's two sons, Brian (Lori) Boyer of Nauvoo and Curtis (Wendy Walker) Boyer of Adrian; three grandsons, Austin, Andrew and Elijah Boyer; a granddaughter, Jackie Boyer; four great-grandchildren, Weston, Lillian, Alexa and Maci; two sisters, Barbara Severin and Diane (Jon) Van Patten, both of Western South Dakota; a brother, Doug (Kathy) Hanson of Montana; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Brent is fondly remembered by his sisters and brother as a wonderful big brother who always looked after them. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial will be at a later date. VISITATION: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. MEMORIALS: Sherrick Home Health Care in Carthage or H.U.G.S. of Hancock County.
