Charles Leroy Salter Jr., 51, of Festus, Mo., formerly of Quincy, died Wednesday (June 12, 2013) in his home. He was born on June 11, 1962, in Fort Hood, Texas, a son of Shirley Faye Stegall and Charles Leroy Salter Sr. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service, including deployment in the Desert Storm campaign. After his military career, he worked as an engineer with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City, and the VFW Post 5129 of Quincy. Survivors include, his sons, Kris Salter and wife, Maria, of Savannah, Ga., Daniel Salter of Orlando, Fla., and Shane Salter of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Shanya Stephens of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Alicia Cipriano and Kaysen Breddell; and a brother-in-law, Gary T. Erb of DeSoto, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Valerie Kaye; and a brother, Louis Scott Salter. SERVICES: VISITATION: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
