SUTTER, Ill. -- Donald Dauer Mulch, 88, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly a lifelong resident of the Sutter area, died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday (July 26, 2014) at Bickford Assisted Living of Burlington.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1926, at home near Sutter, the son of Frank and Frieda Dauer Mulch. He married Lilly Dodd on Sept. 28, 1946, in Quincy. Lilly resides in Burlington.

Don graduated from Warsaw High School at Warsaw and Gem City Business College in Quincy.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theatre with the 22nd Armored Division, receiving several medals, including a Bronze Star.

Don was a member of Ralph Parker American Legion Post of Warsaw.

Don and his wife loved farming and raising cattle in Sutter. He also owned and operated Don Mulch Tax Service. He was an active member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ at Sutter, where he served on many committees.

He enjoyed playing pinochle with his card group and was well known for pitching on the Sutter Fast Pitch Softball team. Later in life, he enjoyed gardening. He loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Donald Dauer (Janice) Mulch II of Lampe, Mo., and Dwight Darrow (Sue) Mulch of Burlington; a brother, Robert Mulch of Harvel; a sister: June (Carl) Pfeiferling of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Eric (Beth) Mulch of Alexandria, Va., Therese (Zak) Kistenfeger of Dalton City, and Mia Mulch of London, United Kingdom; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Michelle Kistenfeger, Kylie Jo Kistenfeger, and Ellie Lilliana Mulch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ at Sutter, with the Rev. Roy Paterik officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery with full military honors.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service with family present from noon to 2 p.m. in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter.
