Donald E. Casley, 86, of 2901 N. 11th, Quincy, died at 5:48 p.m. Saturday (June 29, 2013) in the Illinois Veterans Home. Donald was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Bowen, a son of Charles E. and Laura A. Cook Casley. Donald married Erna Braun in 1948 in Germany. She died on July 23, 1976. He married Mary Jane Hudnut on Feb. 16, 1979 in Quincy. She survives. Don was career military, serving in the United States Army from 1945 to 1975. He served in World War II, in the Korean War, and in two tours of the Vietnam War. Don was awarded the Bronze Star. After he retired from the Army, Don worked for Quincy Hardware for a number of years. Don loved to travel, and he and Mary Jane did a lot of traveling, including two trips to Germany. He was a cat lover and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. This past December, Don had the opportunity to meet Mike Shannon. In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, survivors include, two sisters, Wanda Needles of Ursa, and Luella Schoonover of Ewing, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Casley of Ursa, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Adams conducting. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
